About Us

Meteotest has been working in the heart of Bern for 43 years.

Meteotest was founded in 1981 - the year IBM launched the personal computer. This milestone in computer science made it possible at all for a private company to develop and sell data driven services and products in the areas of weather, climate and the environment.

To this day, Meteotest has remained faithful to this digital business model: the collection, provision, analysis, presentation and interpretation of digital data continues to be our supply base. We are traditionally very familiar with Big Data and Data Science and today these skills are more relevant than ever.

Our team consists of 40 scientists, engineers and computer scientists. We process orders from private and public companies and institutions in Switzerland and abroad.

Green Engagement

  • Meteotest has been environmentally committed since its foundation. In 1992, for example, we built one of the first wind turbines in Switzerland.
  • Today, we produce almost half of our electricity consumption with the 17 kWp photovoltaic system installed on the Meteotest building. We cover the rest of our electricity requirements with Swiss electricity from hydropower, biomass and solar energy.
  • We heat with CO2 neutral district heating from waste and wood and reduce our heating requirements by utilising the waste heat from our server room.
  • "Green IT": We save electricity by virtualising our internal servers and using semi-passive cooling. Our web servers are located in data centres that are powered by 100% renewable energy.
  • Wherever possible, we use public transport for business trips. We largely offset the CO2 emissions of our measurement vehicle, our company car and our flights with certificates.
  • Meteotest is a member of the business initiative AEE Suisse Bern, which is committed to renewable energies and energy efficiency. The company is pleased that all employees help to support these basic ecological ideas. Over 90% of journeys to work are made on foot, by bike or by public transport.
